Clay Travis has simple advice for LSU: Hire Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin over interim coach Ed Orgeron.
The FOX Sports personality spoke on FOX Sports Radio and gave a blistering take of Orgeron’s showing during the Tigers’ 10-0 loss to Alabama last Saturday at Tiger Stadium. Travis begins by saying Orgeron “dominated bad football teams, and then when he played against a good football team, he got dominated.” He also said Alabama won because of better talent and a superior coaching staff.
Travis’ solution? Choose Kiffin. Here’s more from the clip:
“If you want to hire an assistant right now in the SEC, you know who you go hire? Lane Kiffin. Go hire Lane Kiffin. You need to score some points. If you want a current assistant in the SEC to be your next coach, that’s what you need to do. Go find somebody who can win and who can make your offense better. Go hire somebody who Nick Saban’s not laughing at. That might have been the biggest IQ difference in the history of the SEC — Nick Saban against Ed Orgeron. You really thought LSU was going to win that football game?”
This is quite the suggestion, and Travis has a point. LSU was held to 125 yards of total offense. Although Alabama’s defense is stout, that’s an embarrassing output, and the Tigers should have mustered more at home. Even Paul Finebaum said LSU should have expected better.
Kiffin would be a fascinating addition in Baton Rouge. Not only could be bring an innovative offensive approach to LSU, the prospect of facing Saban each year is incredible to consider. There wouldn’t be a shortage of intrigue, and the LSU-Alabama rivalry would reach another level if Kiffin could make the Tigers among the best in short order.
We’ll learn soon enough how things will unfold at LSU.
If LSU wants to hire a current SEC assistant, Lane Kiffin makes infinitely more sense than Coach Orgeron.
