Grant Delpit, the No. 9 safety in the Class of 2017, told SEC County on Tuesday that he will announce his commitment at Nike’s “The Opening” final camp in early July.
Delpit, a Louisiana native who was playing his high school ball in Houston before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., participated in LSU’s satellite camp Tuesday in Houston and is a key target for the Tigers.
A 4-star prospect, Delpit reports nearly 30 offers. Alabama, Auburn and Florida join LSU among his potential SEC landing spots, along with national powers Florida State, Clemson and Baylor. Auburn and Florida State were late to the party, offering Delpit after he announced a top 10 in late April, but both schools could still be in the mix.
Delpit, one of LSU’s top safety targets in the 2017 class, did not work out for the team Tuesday, but is expected to attend an on-campus high school camp in July. Delpit spent time with defensive backs coach Corey Raymond, as well as Ed Orgeron, Dameyune Craig and Jabbar Juluke. He received an outstanding ovation from coach Les Miles as well, who is strongly courting the New Orleans native.
