Former LSU defensive tackle Ego Ferguson will be switching sides of a rivalry. Hours after the Chicago Bears placed him on waivers, the Green Bay Packers claimed him, according to ESPN reporter Field Yates.
The Bears selected Ferguson 51st overall in the 2014 NFL Draft after he had a successful college career with the Tigers. In his junior season in 2013, he had 58 total tackles, including 3.5 for loss, 3 pass breakups and 1 sack. In three years, Ferguson 85 tackles, including 5 for a loss.
In three seasons with the Bears, Ferguson was mostly injured, playing 20 of a possible 48 games. He missed all 2016 because of a preseason shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery. Ferguson also served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy for performance-enhancing drugs.
Still, if healthy, Ferguson’s impact could be a major one. LSU finished in the top three in the SEC in run defense during all three of his seasons with the Tigers.
