Wow! Kirk Herbstreit grilled Texas!
The ESPN analyst had tough words for Texas fans and officials when discussing coach Charlie Strong’s job security Saturday morning during College GameDay. Check out his message below, and try not to cringe:
“I think if you’re Charlie Strong, you have to have peace of mind, because if they ask you to leave, you’re going to get paid well and you’re going to get released,” Herbstreit said. “When I say released, you’re going to get released from the cesspool of being in Austin, Texas, and the attitude that comes with being the head coach at Texas. … Who would want the job at Texas?”
He went on to criticize boosters and university officials for pushing out Mack Brown. Herbstreit predicted they would do the same to Strong, who faces more heat after the Longhorns’ 2-2 start.
That’s a rough message, and it likely makes LSU feel a little better about itself if the program ends up competing for coaching talent with Texas after this season. There’s no doubt large programs everywhere come with pressure, but Texas holds a special brand of expectations. Talk about a tall challenge.
Kirk Herbstreit did NOT hold back about the "cesspool" culture at Texas football. https://t.co/JgOqMRYhUK
