LSU may not know who it wants to hire following the dismissal of Les Miles. But Kirk Herbstreit does.
Appearing on the Paul Finebaum show, Herbstreit made a hard pitch for Houston head coach Tom Herman.
“The guy that I think is a perfect fit is Tom Herman,” Herbstreit said. “Right now he’s the flavor of the month thanks to the offense and what he’s doing in Houston. If I were in charge of LSU, that’s the only call I would make… Not only is he the right fit but he’s young and he could take Urban Meyer’s system to Baton Rouge. If Tom Herman goes to LSU, look out.”
Herman is just 41 years old. Only Kirby Smart and Barry Odom are younger than him among active SEC coaches. Herman has coached all over the map, with stops at Iowa State, Ohio State and Houston, where he is currently the head coach. He also went to school in California. Herman has yet to coach at an SEC school, though he has been well regarded for his work at Ohio State with Urban Meyer.
Herman and the No.6 Houston Cougars take on UConn on Thursday night on ESPN. LSU is hosting Missouri on Saturday on the SEC Network. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
