BATON ROUGE, La. — Don’t count on seeing Leonard Fournette in the backfield for Ed Orgeron’s debut as LSU’s interim coach on Saturday.
Fournette has not practiced yet this week and Orgeron revealed Wednesday morning that the star running back will be a “game-time decision.”
Fournette has been constantly bothered by a high ankle sprain since training camp. He aggravated the injury at the end of the opener at Wisconsin, forcing him to sit out the following week against Jacksonville State.
Coincidentally, Fournette tweaked the injury once again on the final possession of the game at Auburn, when he took a hard hit after dropping a pass with his foot planted awkwardly in the turf.
Fournette has 386 yards on 67 carries in the three games that he has played. Derrius Guice has proven a capable backup, rushing for 155 yards against Jacksonville State when Fournette was out.
