Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice are very close. And it’s say to safe there isn’t a bigger fan of the current superstar LSU running back than Fournette.
In a piece about Guice written by Joan Niesen of Sports Illustrated, Fournette raved about Guice’s all-around ability. The now Jacksonville Jaguar said Guice has a chance to be drafted even higher than Fournette, who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
“He can do it all now,”Fournette said of Guice. “He can run, catch, block. He does it all in a game, whenever you need him: fourth-and-one, when you need him to catch the ball a couple inches down the field. He’s there. He’s one of the most exciting players to be in college football right now.”
I believe he has the ability to be the No. 1, No. 2—even [higher than] me—player coming out of the draft.
Through two games, Guice has rushed for 224 yards and four touchdowns, but he has a chance to go off this week against the Bulldogs, given that it is the first big SEC game for the Tigers this year.
From an NFL draft standpoint, there hasn’t been a running back taken at No. 1 or No. 2 since 2006, when the New Orleans Saints took Reggie Bush second overall.
Guice and the Tigers kickoff against Mississippi State at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The game will air on ESPN.
