LSU tailback Leonard Fournette knows he’s fast. Despite being pursued by two South Carolina defensive backs on his 87-yard touchdown run Saturday in a 45-24 win, Fournette was confident he wouldn’t be caught.
During the run, Fournette quelled his doubt by telling himself that the Gamecocks defensive backs weren’t that fast. He proved to be correct, as he glided past them into the end zone for six points.
Then again, Fournette probably says that about a lot of would-be tacklers. For the defensive players who do make contact, Fournette has the size to run through them instead of past them. The Heisman Trophy hopeful has pounded and sprinted his way to 1,022 yards and 12 touchdowns with six games left in the regular season to improve upon those stats.
Fournette, on his 87-yd TD, says he thought about the SC DBs behind him and said to himself, "They're not that fast." #LSU
