LSU running back Leonard Fournette said he was extremely disappointed when he heard the news about UGA running back Nick Chubb’s leg injury.
“My heart… just shattered,” Fournette said to The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger.
The two tailbacks are competing for SEC Player of the Year honors and are front-runners to be in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony at the end of the season. However, Chubb’s gruesome injury on his first carry during UGA’s game against Tennessee could put the rest of his season in jeopardy.
Fournette and Chubb were also on similar paths beyond college. Both are sophomore tailbacks who are clearly among the best players in all of college football and had bright futures ahead of them in the NFL.
Unfortunately, football is an unpredictable and unforgiving game. Competition aside, Fournette said he felt terrible for his fellow competitor.
