BATON ROUGE, La. — In the mind of Les Miles, the following somehow makes sense.
When asked who his starting quarterback will be Saturday night against Mississippi State, Miles stated “We’re going to keep that in house” before following it up with “I can’t imagine Danny Etling won’t take the first snaps, but we’re going to let that play out.”
So it seems what is happening here is that Etling will start, but Miles knows he has to massage displaced starter Brandon Harris’ ego in case Etling proves ineffective once opponents have seen how to prepare for him on film.
“That’s certainly the issue, making sure he knows this is a team and he needs to be prepared to play significant snaps,” Miles said of Harris. “We think that he would understand his role and it’s one that would allow him to compete from this point forward to start.”
