Clay Moffitt, the son of LSU strength coach Tommy Moffitt and the older brother of incoming defensive end Aaron Moffit, said on his Twitter account that he will play baseball for the Tigers baseball team next season.
Clay, a right-hander, was 6-2 with a 3.61 ERA at LSU-Eunice. He had 37 strikeouts in 42.1 innings this season.

The signing of Clay comes on the same day that LSU announced that freshman right-hander Eric Walker will have reconstructive surgery for a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow and will miss the entire 2018 season.
Walker was 8-2 with a 3.48 ERA. He had 78 strikeouts in 95.2 innings and held opponents to a .233 batting average.
Clay said he was thankful for the chance to join his father and younger brother at LSU.
Three ACL tears forced Clay to change his thoughts from playing football to baseball when he was younger, but the move clearly has paid dividends.
