LSU has had its share of tremendous defensive players over the years, and one LSU coach thinks freshman defensive lineman Arden Key could be the next legendary Tiger.
Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron gushed about Key’s potential to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. Orgeron has coached great NFL players at Miami and USC, but he said Key sets himself apart from any player he’s ever coached in more than 30 years.
“I’ve never had a guy like this,” Orgeron told Feldman. “Arden’s so fast and long, and instinctive and smart. He’s also tough as nails. (Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Greg) Hardy was stronger but not as fast or fluid like this guy. Wait till he gets to 250 (pounds).”
Key had 41 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and five sacks during his debut campaign in Baton Rouge, La. With more snaps next season, Key could quickly emerge as one of the best defensive players in the SEC as a sophomore.
