LSU coach Les Miles: Teenage cancer patient Sid Ortis “is in a better place”
LSU coach Les Miles lost a friend over the weekend. Teenage cancer patient and avid LSU fan Sid Ortis died this past weekend after battling bone cancer.
Miles and Ortis forged a special bond this season after Miles called Ortis, an Alabama native, to give him some inspiration. Miles hosted Ortis and his family at LSU’s 45-24 victory over Auburn earlier in the season. Miles spoke about the impact Ortis had on his life and spoke of his undeniable passion for the Tigers.
“I was fortunate to meet Sid Ortis,” Miles said according to The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger. “Had so much spirit and excitement. Loved his Tigers.”
Miles had planned to host Ortis and his family at this weekend’s game in Tuscaloosa, Ala., against the Crimson Tide. But Miles said Ortis was in the one place better than Bryant-Denny Stadium on a football Saturday.
“He’s in a better place,” Miles said according to Dellenger.
