The preseason hype for LSU continues to roll.
Many people are picking the Tigers to make it to the national championship this year. Now, Pro Football Focus has handed out its SEC Superlatives, and LSU has three players on the list, more than any other SEC school. Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss and Texas A&M each have two players.
PFF named LSU RB Leonard Fournette the toughest tailback to tackle in the conference. Fournette was the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy for much of last season as he ran for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry.
“(Fournette’s) 85 missed tackles forced were the most of any running back in the nation, let alone the SEC,” PFF’s Gordon McGuinness wrote. “Adding another 10 missed tackles as a receiver, Fournette is in the range that a 100 missed tackle forced season isn’t out of the question.”
The most surprising name on the list might be LSU quarterback Brandon Harris. PFF named Harris the SEC’s most accurate quarterback under pressure.
“He didn’t have the highest completion percentage on throws under pressure,” McGuinness wrote, “but Harris suffered from his receivers dropping seven passes. Under pressure, no returning SEC quarterback had a higher adjusted completion percentage than Harris’ 67.2 percent.”
Harris had an overall completion percentage of 53.8 percent in 2015 with 13 touchdowns against six interceptions. The media voted Harris preseason third-team All-SEC at SEC Media Days.
WR Travin Dural was the other LSU player to make the list. PFF named him the SEC’s most productive receiver, averaging more yards per route run (2.84) than any other returning receiver in the conference.
