LSU stands alone as the final undefeated team in the SEC, but its path to the SEC Championship and perhaps the College Football Playoff will be daunting.
LSU’s remaining four games will be extremely difficult, with each opponent ranked inside the FPI’s top 26 and two ranked inside the top 10. It faces arguably its toughest remaining opponent this weekend when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face Alabama. The Tigers close out the season by hosting Arkansas, traveling for a battle against Ole Miss, then hosting Texas A&M in the regular-season finale.
Some fellow SEC foes also face brutal ends to the regular season. Ole Miss and Mississippi State both rank inside the top five in toughest remaining schedules, according to the FPI. Alabama’s remaining schedule ranks 34th. After facing LSU, Alabama will travel to Mississippi State, host Charleston Southern and travel to Auburn for the Iron Bowl.
LSU cannot look past the vaunted Crimson Tide, but the road won’t get much easier for the Tigers’ attempt to win the SEC and possibly a national title.
