If LSU wins the national championship in January, the Tigers can’t say nobody believed in them.
Preseason magazines have been giving Les Miles’ team serious love (ex. both Phil Steele and ESPN’s Football Power Index have LSU in the College Football Playoff), and now prominent Las Vegas sportsbook Golden Nugget lists the Tigers as a favorite throughout the regular season.
Yes, that includes a Nov. 5 matchup against Alabama in Baton Rouge.
All-American running back Leonard Fournette and a stout defense are apparently enough to allow bettors to put money on Alabama as an underdog, even though the Tide have defeated the Tigers in five straight seasons (including a 30-16 victory in 2015).
Here’s a look at LSU’s notable matchups, per VegasInsider.com:
- Sept. 3 vs. Wisconsin (-10)
- Sept. 17 vs. Mississippi State (-11)
- Sept. 24 at Auburn (-7)
- Oct. 8 at Florida (-8.5)
- Oct. 22 vs. Ole Miss (-9.5)
- Nov. 5 vs. Alabama (-2.5)
- Nov. 12 at Arkansas (-7.5)
- Nov. 24 at Texas A&M (-6)
In case it wasn’t already obvious: The pressure is on Miles, who was nearly canned last November. He’s got perhaps the most talented team in the country, but one with a quarterback — Brandon Harris — who still has much to prove.
