LSU football is the No. 1 topic of discussion every day on SEC Country’s One Team, One Podcast. Host Carter ‘The Power” Bryant shares how ridiculously bad Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis has been against Tigers senior quarterback Danny Etling. Also, Bryant shares his thoughts on Etling’s career, the Bayou Bengal dominance of the Aggies and the rumors of LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada looking for a Power 5 head coaching job.
John Chavis has been disastrous against Danny Etling
Etling has two 300-yard passing games in his career, both of which have come against Texas A&M. He cruised for 324 yards last season and two touchdowns. On Saturday, the senior tossed for 347 yards and three touchdowns. Against non-Aggie Power 5 defenses, the highest total he has thrown for is 217 yards.
Bryant explains Etling is not a bad quarterback, but he is no NFL All-Pro. Former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis bolted to College Station in 2014 to fix the Aggies defense. Instead, they have not improved and their overall records have stagnated.
Chavis has been hilariously mediocre. That is a big reason why Kevin Sumlin is out of a job.
LSU’s dominance over Texas A&M
Texas A&M has not beaten LSU since it has joined the SEC. When Bryant asked Sumlin about it, he was blunt and direct. (Audio in the podcast)
This Thanksgiving weekend “rivalry” replaced the “The Battle for the Golden Boot” for LSU. Bryant hates it has been one-sided and boring.
Matt Canada out?
Rumors are swirling that Canada is a potential candidate for numerous head coaching jobs. Head coach Ed Orgeron knows all about it and wishes him the best. Bryant shares how important Canada has been to the success of the Tigers.
