LSU opened the season in the top 5 with hopes of competing for a national championship. The Tigers have a lot of work to get back there, slipping out of the top 1o and all the way to 21st in the wake of their 16-14 Week 1 loss to unranked Wisconsin.
Next up for LSU is a team still ranked in the top 5 — of the FCS poll. Jacksonville State may come from the smaller division, but it is one of the best teams the FCS has to offer, clocking in at No. 5 in the country at that level. The FCS proved to be dangerous for a trio of Power 5 programs last week, with Eastern Washington beating Washington State, Northern Iowa beating Iowa State and Richmond downing Virginia. TCU also engaged in a full-fledged shootout with the No. 8 team in the FCS, needing all the offense it could muster for a 59-41 win over South Dakota State.
It’s a get-well week for LSU, but Jacksonville State can’t be looked at as a guaranteed “get well soon” card.
