LSU’s wide receiving corps took a major hit on Tuesday, losing its second player, Kevin Spears, who is set to transfer, the team announced.
Spears is the second wide receiver to transfer out of LSU on Tuesday, joining sophomore Trey Quinn.
Spears, a 6-foot-2, 207-pound redshirt sophomore out of New Orleans, did not appear in a game this past season.
The wide receiver played in three games for the Tigers during the 2014 season. However, he did not register any statistics.
Spears was a three-star prospect coming out of Holy Cross High School (New Orleans) and was previously committed to Louisiana Tech. He flipped his commitment to LSU a day after making an official visit to Baton Rouge, La.
Overall, the Tigers have lost three receivers to transfers this offseason with John Diarse now at TCU.
With Quinn and Spears set to leave the team, more opportunities are expected to open for incumbents Tyron Johnson and D.J. Chark. Additionally, LSU’s 2016 signing class included three four-star wide receivers — Dee Anderson, Drake Davis and Stephen Sullivan — who could compete for playing time as true freshmen.
