There won’t be a battle of the bands at Tiger Stadium anytime soon. That’s because LSU has instituted a new policy that will prohibit opposing bands from performing during halftime because of a safety issue, according to The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger.
LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette told Dellenger there is not enough space on the sidelines to fit an opposing band before its halftime performance. Although no incidents have been reported between players and band members, LSU’s athletic department has opted not to take any further risks.
This new rule hasn’t gone over well with some band directors. Dellenger reports that Jacksonville State band director Ken Bodiford won’t be spending the $120,000 to send his band to Baton Rouge, La., when the Gamecocks battle the Tigers Sept. 10. Alabama also won’t be sending its entire Million Dollar Band to its game against LSU in November and instead will be sending a smaller pep band, according to Dellenger.
