LSU moves up to No. 1 in SEC Country Power Rankings
LSU soared to No. 1 in the SEC Country Power Poll after Ole Miss, last week’s top team, suffered a blowout loss to Florida. The Tigers received 14 of a possible 17 first-place votes from our panel of SEC media members. LSU received 218 points, which was 27 more points than second place Texas A&M. LSU was either voted as the best or the second-best team in the conference.
The Tigers were not dominant against Eastern Michigan last weekend. LSU won 44-22 thanks to a 233-yard, three-touchdown rushing performance from Leonard Fournette. The passing game struggled to get started on Saturday and LSU’s defense didn’t shut down a pedestrian Eastern Michigan offense, but the team’s overall resume was still strong enough to earn the top spot.
LSU’s next contest is against South Carolina. The Gamecocks are 2-3 and have been tumbling down the Power Poll. Steve Spurrier’s group is ranked 13th by our experts after losing its first three conference games. The Gamecocks are in disarray on offense and have failed to score more than 22 points in all three SEC battles.
