The dead period is over and Cam Cameron is on the move.
Off to make one last push for a quarterback commitment for LSU’s 2016 recruiting class, the Tigers’ offensive coordinator flew out to Maryland to visit with four-star quarterback prospect Dwayne Haskins, according to 247Sports’ Shea Dixon.
Haskins, a Maryland commit, has been courted by LSU long after he pledged to the Terrapins.
Upon the arrival of first-year Maryland coach D.J. Durkin, the team has extended scholarship offers to a pair of 2016 quarterbacks, including four-star California prospect Devon Modster and three-star Alabama prospect Tyrrell Pigrome, as well three-star 2017 quarterback Taylor Powell.
It is unclear whether Maryland’s coaching staff fears Haskins is strongly considering LSU or Ohio State, or is simply adding more bodies at a position of need.
Many of the LSU commits were attempting to recruit Haskins during the Under Armour All-American Game, but apparently the Tigers are going to bring out their top weapon soon.
LSU coach Les Miles will use his one in-home visit to visit with Haskins next week, per Dixon.
Haskins, the nation’s No. 7 pro-style quarterback, was rumored to be heading to Baton Rouge, La. this coming weekend along with a star-studded cast of other national prospects. However, that is not the case as LSU continues to try and bring Haskins to its campus with three weekends left before National Signing Day (Feb. 3).
A visit to LSU could go a long way in the Tigers finally landing a quarterback in this year’s recruiting class.
