BATON ROUGE, La. — It’s amazing the difference a stopwatch can make.
Brad Stewart, the top-rated cornerback in Louisiana, added a much-anticipated offer Thursday from LSU after clocking multiple sub 4.5-second 40-yard dashes and continuing to impress the Tigers’ coaches during individual and 7-on-7 workouts.
Now the ball is in the 4-star cornerback’s court.
Those words are what LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond told Stewart after clocking the 40 times. After all, LSU has monitored the 6-foot, 194-pound New Orleans native for several months, only waiting for him to meet the necessary combine benchmarkers.
The impressive 40 time stands out because Stewart also thrives with a physical style of play. That was on display during one-on-one workouts. The McDonogh 35 (New Orleans) product also showed out in off-coverage, showing exceptional make-up speed and agility with some quality receivers at camp.
Stewart must decide whether to give the in-state SEC power a chance in spite of the late offer or weigh the near-40 other schools he has been entertaining for much of the spring and summer. Stewart has been to LSU several times this spring, including the “Boys From The Boot” junior events and the Tigers’ spring game.
A source close to the situation believes Stewart may give further consideration to LSU after earning the offer because of his family. He is also very high on Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Miami and Florida. He will visit Gainesville for the Gators’ Friday Night Lights event.
