LSU coach Les Miles may not have public support on his side, but his players still have his back despite a three-game losing skid.
Several LSU players offered their support to their coach, whose seat has reportedly gotten hotter in Baton Rouge, La. Miles said after Saturday’s 38-17 loss to Ole Miss that he did not feel he was in any danger of being fired.
“I haven’t taken those reports …,” Miles said according to The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger. “I’m so busy doing my job that’s secondary in my nature.”
Senior defensive back Jalen Mills may only have a couple of games left with Miles, but he still backed his head coach after the game.
“We play for him,” Mills said after the game according to Dellenger. “We play for LSU.”
Mills wasn’t the only player to reassure his faith in Miles. Sophomore defensive tackle Davon Godchaux declared Miles was “our guy,” according to Dellenger. Fellow defensive tackle, junior Christian LaCouture echoed those sentiments and expressed even more passion for Miles.
“Coach Miles is our coach,” LaCouture said according to Dellenger. “We love him.”
Senior linebacker Deion Jones may have had the most fortified quote of the evening and it appeared he was speaking for his entire team.
“That’s our coach, and we’ve got his back 100 percent,” Jones told Dellenger.
The media may think he’s on the hot seat, the fans and athletic department may want him out, but LSU’s players still believe in Miles to get the job done and right the ship.
