Derrius Guice hasn’t quite lived up to the preseason hype he received this summer, but that certainly doesn’t mean he hasn’t at least partially filled the huge shoes of Leonard Fournette.
In fact, he just filled some even bigger ones with his performance Saturday.
The Baton Rouge native has 711 yards and 6 touchdowns on 124 carries this season, but he turned it up to another level Saturday against Ole Miss — a season-high 276 yards on 22 carries.
That performance put him alone atop a list that includes some pretty impressive names.

Guice’s other huge games came against Arkansas (252) and Texas A&M (285) in 2016 when Fournette was battling ankle issues. While Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson are bigger SEC legends, it’s Guice who nonetheless stands alone at the top of this list.
What’s more, Saturday was the first time Guice hit the 100-yard mark since Week 2, and helped the Tigers to their third straight win. Perhaps this sparks something bigger for Guice and the Tigers’ ground game — which faces the Alabama defense following a bye week.
