2017 won’t be the last season for LSU safety John Battle after all. So maybe it’s time to put that potential photography career on hold.
Battle has reclassified as a junior after receiving a medical redshirt for 2014, when he played in just one game as a freshman. He now has eligibility through the end of the 2018 season.
Battle is coming off his best season with the Tigers. He played in all 12 games in 2016, including starting the last seven, finishing with 39 tackles and four pass breakups. That included five tackles and two pass breakups in LSU’s Citrus Bowl victory over Louisville.
Entering last season, Battle had just five career tackles, all of which came in 2015.
Battle played free safety last season after Rickey Jefferson suffered a season-ending injury. It’s possible he’ll play there again this season.
