The 2016 edition of National Signing Day came and went, and LSU hauled in another nationally renowned recruiting class.
16 of the Tigers’ 23 signees hail from the state of Louisiana, and that includes a pair of five-star prospects in cornerback Kristian Fulton and defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence.
The signing day rush drew the attention of not only recruits, but many LSU alum, players and, of course, coach Les Miles.
Here are some of the best quotes and tweets from LSU’s 2016 National Signing Day.
“This group is going to be very special. It’s a class you can compete for a national championship with. We return 18 starters and you look at a class this talented to come in alongside a veteran team, we like our chances,” Les Miles said during his press conference Wednesday.
“Welcome all of our newest signees to the LSU FAMILY,” tweeted former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, adding the hashtag “#GreatnessBeginsHere.”
“Brandon Harris was absolutely a first choice. I think we’ve had several first choices that we took and understood that. There’s many times the opportunity given is an athlete, throw-and-run quarterback, a dual-threat. Those guys have the opportunity to do things that are pretty special. I look at Lindsey Scott like that, and he looks pretty tall to me,” said Miles, when asked about the team’s struggles recruiting quarterbacks.
“Oh and for all the DB’s signing welcome to #LSUDBU,” former LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson tweeted, adding the hashtags “#NumbersDontLie” and “#GeauxTigers.”
“Welcome to the Jungle,” former LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry tweeted, with the hashtags “#ClassOf16” and “#BayouBengals.”
“I have never read an essay that someone wrote on signing day, that someone directed at me. I thought it was well done. I would have given him a good grade. It was pretty stylistic and had some stuff to it. I like the parallel he drew between family and team. You don’t shake hands with family; you hug. I think it was a good piece. If I had known there was a $10 bet on this deal, somehow I should have made $5,” Miles said, when asked about signee Drake Davis’ letter.
“To all @LSUfball signees, welcome to the family!!” former LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. tweeted.
“Welcome to the family,” LSU running back Leonard Fournette tweeted, adding “#GreatnessBeginsHere Savage university.”
