BATON ROUGE, La. — Just because LSU is on bye week doesn’t mean there’s not plenty to talk about.
In this week’s edition of Sound Off with Nick and Alex, SEC Country’s LSU beat reporters Alex Hickey and Nick Suss discuss the three biggest topics facing LSU as it rolls through its bye week and prepares for a pivotal matchup against No. 1 Alabama in two weeks.
The pair starts with a discussion of the importance of running back Derrius Guice’s resurgence, followed by a chat about the recent dominance of outside linebacker and future first-round pick Arden Key. Finally, the conversation shifts to focusing on the future when Nick and Alex discuss a few storylines fans should get ready for when LSU plays Alabama.
Look below to find timestamps where certain topics are discussed in the video:
0:30: Derrius Guice rushed for 276 yards against Ole Miss last Saturday. He looks as healthy as he’s been since the beginning of the season and is starting to come into his own in Matt Canada’s offense. What’s sparked his return to prominence, and how will the Tigers use him moving forward?
3:20: Guice isn’t the only running back who’s hot. Senior Darrel Williams had 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards against Ole Miss. How will LSU mix and match its two backs against Alabama?
4:50: Arden Key looks like he’s in football shape after slogging through his first three or four games of 2017. Are his 2 sacks against Ole Miss an indicator of his renewed dominance? If so, how much of an advantage does this give the Tigers?
6:40: Alabama is still Alabama. There’s no denying how good the No. 1 Crimson Tide are. Where will LSU have to improve in order to slow down the Tide’s dominant rushing attack and pierce through its stifling defense? Suffice to say, there’s plenty of room for improvement.
