Leonard Fournette is becoming a larger-than-life superstar in a whirlwind sophomore season. Now, the Heisman Trophy hopeful is on the latest Sports Illustrated cover.
“The next…. Herschel Walker? Earl Campbell? Marshall Faulk? Bo? Leonard Fournette Thanks You for the Comparisons, but 5-0 LSU Tiger Will Do Just Fine,” the cover reads.
Fournette is the first LSU player to be featured since defensive back Tyrann Mathieu was on the cover almost three years ago after he was dismissed from the program in 2012.
SI’s Alan Shipnuck tells Fournette’s account of how surviving Hurricane Katrina and becoming a father has affected his success on the field. The article also discusses where Fournette ranks among the game’s greatest tailbacks, including UGA legend Herschel Walker, who appeared on the cover three times during his time in Athens. The story also delves into the heated debate about whether Fournette should sit out his junior season to preserve himself for the 2017 NFL Draft.
