Another notable LSU target is close to deciding his college football plans.
Lavonte Valentine, who is coming off a multi-day visit to LSU for the elite high school prospect camp, is scheduled to announce his commitment on July 4 at 4 p.m. ET.
Valentine, a 3-star prospect, is the No. 13 all-purpose back in the 2018 recruiting class and a top-100 recruit from Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The 6-foot, 190-pound speedster camped at LSU in June. Valentine spent the Wednesday prior to camp in town with his mother and the Tigers’ coaching staff, then showed out during testing on Thursday. Valentine clocked a 4.34-second 40 time.
LSU is one of seven finalists for the Sunshine State product along with South Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida, Southern Cal, Kentucky and Louisville. Currently, the 247 Crystal Ball is split 50-50 between the Gators and Gamecocks.
The Tigers reeled in commitments from a trio of running backs while Valentine was in town. That includes fellow Florida running back Chris Curry and Alabama athlete Tae Provens, who was being recruited for a similar role as Valentine. LSU also flipped top in-state tailback AJ Carter from UCLA to bolster the team’s 2018 class, which is up to 22 commitments and ranks as the No. 3 group in the country.
