ORLANDO, Fla. — Will LSU be able to get a flip in the final month of the recruiting cycle? If so, the most likely candidate may be 4-star Alabama commit Christopher Allen.
Allen, who recently committed to the Tide after his official visit during the Iron Bowl, continues to hear from the LSU coaching staff. The message remains the same, and it still intrigues the Baton Rouge linebacker.
“They’re still talking to me,” Allen said ahead of Jan. 1’s Under Armour All-America Game. “Basically, it’s about the playing time and that they need depth at linebacker, so if I come, I’ll most likely play a lot.
“It piques my interest a little bit,” he said when asked if he’s intrigued by the opportunity to play early for LSU. “Playing early … who doesn’t want to play early, but sometimes early isn’t everyone’s choice.”
Earlier this month, Allen told SEC Country he chose Alabama over LSU despite the early opportunities available to him in Baton Rouge.
Allen remains in touch with LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, who has inquired about what it would take to flip the All-American linebacker. Allen also continues to engage the Tigers about opportunities.
“They asked me the same question,” said Allen, when asked what it would take for him to flip to LSU. “I don’t know, but Alabama’s got everything that I want, so …”
LSU and Colorado remain in the mix for official visits next month.
Allen, who 6-foot-4, 234 pounds, has not scheduled any visits — yet. For now, he remains focused on his commitment to the Tide, despite his hometown team continuing to make a push.
“I like the idea of staying on the field every down,” Allen said.
What about the idea of playing for LSU?
“Since I committed, I really haven’t thought about it.”
