LSU forward Ben Simmons, projected as one of the top picks in the 2016 NBA Draft, will not participate in the league’s draft combine that starts next week.
Simmons’ name was not among the list of 63 participants issued Thursday by the NBA. Simmons averaged 19.2 points and 11.8 rebounds per game in his only season in Baton Rouge.
DraftExpress.com’s Jonathan Givony writes that the likely reason Simmons is skipping the event is to keep from undergoing the medical checks the NBA puts every combine prospect through.
Some of the highest draft picks of the past three years, including Karl Anthony Towns, Jahlil Okafor, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid and Anthony Bennett all skipped the combine, Givony reports.
