LSU was already struggling on the road against the Mississippi State Bulldogs with its full lineup, trailing 20-7 early in the third quarter. But it looks as if the Tigers will spend the rest of this one — and the first half of next week’s game — without one of their senior leaders after linebacker Donnie Alexander was ejected for targeting.
Later in the third quarter, LSU freshman defensive end Neil Farrell Jr. also was ejected for targeting.
Penalties have been a big issue for the Tigers thus far in 2017, as they came into Saturday night’s game averaging an SEC-worst 10.5 per game. They’ve maintained that pace — and then some — in this one, with seven penalties for 86 yards prior to Alexander’s ejection.
Coming into the game, Alexander had eight total tackles on the year.
