After a battle with cancer, Mike VI passed away on Tuesday at the age of 11.
LSU’s live mascot was adopted by the university in 2007, and was diagnosed spindle cell sarcoma in May 2016. He underwent radiotherapy on June 1, 2016, and was humanely euthanized in his night house by LSU’s attending veterinarian, David Baker, Ph.D.
Mike VI was entered into hospice care on Oct. 10, 2016.
There will not be memorial service held for the live tiger, but LSU’s press release encouraged fans to share memories, photos and stories on social media with the hashtag, #MikeVI.
A search for a young male tiger has begun, and the university will seek to obtain one from a rescue facility.
