Sometimes, just winning is enough. That happens to be the case for LSU on Sunday.
After sneaking by with a 23-20 win over Mississippi State on Saturday night, LSU improved its position in The Associated Press Poll from No. 20 to No. 18. The incremental jump still keeps the Tigers a long way from the No. 5 slot they held in the preseason, but it moved the team to unbeaten in SEC play on the year, which is more than can be said of three of the seven teams in the SEC West.
One thing working against LSU in the polls was the poor performance of No. 11 Wisconsin, a team that upset LSU on opening weekend. Wisconsin needed all four quarters to narrowly squeeze past Georgia State, a winless team from the Sun Belt Conference, by a score of 23-17.
LSU continues its conference schedule this weekend as it plays its first true road game of the season at Auburn.
