NEVILLE, La. — When Rashard Lawrence chose between LSU and Ohio State on Friday, he was going to leave one fan base very happy, and another … not so much.
The five-star defensive tackle was cognizant of that, because, well, his mother told him as much as he made his decision the night before.
Lawrence committed to LSU over the Buckeyes, leaving his home state excited.
The No. 2 prospect in the state now has the entire LSU faithful in his corner, just as he’s always wanted.
“He feeds off that,” said Agnes Lawrence, Rashard’s mother. “He loves the fan base, and LSU has a great fan base. I told them that ‘You can make your choice, and sometimes you can’t make people happy.’ This would just make the state of Louisiana happy.”
Lawrence will have his first chance to play in front of those fans in the fall at Tigers Stadium,
His future may involve NFL stadiums, and the Lawrence Family agreed the LSU coaching staff would put Rashard in the best position to eventually fulfill those dreams.
“There’s the fan base, the experience of playing in that stadium and also the chance that he can move on farther if he wants to,” Agnes Lawrence said. “Coach (Ed) Orgeron has put a lot of players in the NFL and Rashard feels comfortable with him. He told me, ‘Mom, if I can go farther, that’s the place I can go.’”
