BJ Foster is exactly two weeks from giving his college commitment, the 5-star safety announced on Monday.
Foster, the nation’s No. 1 safety and the No. 15 player overall in the 247Sports composite rankings, will announce his decision on June 5. LSU, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU are his finalists.
The 6-foot-1, 188-pound defensive back from Angleton (Texas) High School visited LSU on the Sunday of national junior day along with his mother, getting significant 1-on-1 time with Tigers coach Ed Orgeron. That was Foster’s inaugural visit to Baton Rouge after also making a handful of stops to Texas this spring.
LSU has a need at safety in its 2018 recruiting class. Currently, the team holds three commitments from defensive backs, including Kelvin Joseph, Nadab Joseph and Ar’Darius Washington. One of Kelvin and Nadab will play corner and the other will man the safety spot, while Washington is set to be groomed as a nickel.
After reeling in three blue-chip safeties in the 2017 class, that puts LSU in a position to potentially nab another elite prospect at the position this turn.
Currently, there are 14 predictions favoring Texas in the 247Sports crystal ball.
