Ja’Marr Chase made an unexpected splash on Sunday evening by ending an unofficial visit to Gainesville, Fla., with a commitment to the Gators.
While the top-110 prospect maintains he’s 100 percent committed to his pledge, Chase will be visiting another SEC school on Friday. LSU is set to host Chase and his family for an unofficial visit.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound wide receiver from Archbishop Rummel (La.) High School in New Orleans had the Tigers as one of two finalists along with TCU before making the surprising commitment to Florida after a visit to the Sunshine State for Friday Night Lights.
Chase, a 4-star wide receiver, remains a priority target for the LSU coaching staff. Those in Baton Rouge were expecting Chase to commit to TCU instead of LSU when he was originally scheduled to announce his decision on NFL Network earlier this month. One source believed that once the fall rolled around and Chase got a glimpse of Matt Canada’s offense, he eventually would fall into LSU’s 2018 class.
Friday marks an important meeting back to Baton Rouge for Chase and his family, but also the LSU coaching staff, which is looking to gauge whether they are out of contention for a top-5 prospect in the state.
