One of nation’s top 10 prospects declares LSU as clear-cut leader
Bradenton, Fla. — LSU is out in front for one of the top uncommitted prospects in the country.
Shavar Manuel, the No. 8 player overall in 2016, confirmed to SEC Country on Friday that the Tigers are now his sole leader. The news comes on the heels of his official visit to LSU on Oct. 17.
“I was able to really bond with some of the coaches, players and students as well,” Manuel said of his official visit. “They rolled the red carpet out for me. It was a fun trip.”
The 5-star defensive tackle from IMG Academy credits his relationship with LSU’s coaching staff, particularly defensive line coach Ed Orgeron, for the Tigers’ recent surge in his recruitment.
“Coach Orgeron and I have a great relationship,” Manuel said. “I have a healthy relationship with the defensive line players there as well. We talk on a daily basis and it’s just a great atmosphere down there. I can really see myself in that purple and yellow.”
One of Manuel’s teammates and best friends, Saivion Smith, who committed to LSU in February, has also been a stout advocate for the Tigers. Manuel said Smith has aggressively recruited him. It would appear it has paid dividends.
“That’s one of my best friends,” Manuel said. “He stays on me. And like I said, coach Orgeron and I have a great relationship.”
Manuel told SEC Country that he has no other official visits set up at this time. He did concede that Alabama is vying to get him out to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for an official visit on Nov. 7.
