The 76ers reportedly informed Simmons and his representatives of the team’s decision Tuesday.
Simmons has long been considered the top NBA prospect in college and has been atop NBA Draft boards for a long time. There was a certain amount of inevitability to this pick, even as Duke’s Brandon Ingram seemed to gain momentum.
Simmons averaged 19.2 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per game to go with 4.8 assists per game as the Tigers’ do-everything freshman. LSU though failed to make any postseason tournament and there were certainly some frustrations with how the season went at LSU.
That has not chased anyone off his tail or lessened the hype for the player many consider the closest thing to LeBron James since James was drafted in 2003.
Simmons already seems to be ready to join the 76ers:
Simmons posted a picture on Instagram of him in a 76ers practice jersey with the caption, "Trust the process." pic.twitter.com/iy5m01NcYR
