Former LSU C Kevin Mawae is joining the Chicago Bears as an offensive assistant, according to ESPN 104.5 FM in Baton Rouge.
Mawae worked with the Bears offensive line during training camp before agreeing to a deal that would keep him on through the season, according to FootballScoop.
During his NFL career, Mawae was an eight-time Pro Bowler and a seven-time All-Pro. He played 16 seasons in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. He served two terms as the president of the NFLPA.
The 45-year-old former lineman was a four-year starter at LSU, from 1990 to 1993.
