If the reports are true, Alex Bregman’s baseball dreams are about to become reality.
Bregman, who played a starring role as LSU’s dynamic shorstop from 2013-15, has received his first call-up to the Majors and will join the Houston Astros on Friday, according to AstrosFuture.com.
Bregman became the second overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft after batting .323 with 22 doubles, nine homers, 49 RBI and an SEC-best 38 steals as a junior for the Tigers. Earlier this season, the talented hitter earned a promotion to Houston’s Triple-A affiliate, where he has hit .388 with a .746 slugging percentage in his first 15 games.
It goes without saying: rising to baseball’s highest level after logging just 143 professional games would be a pretty killer accomplishment for Bregman and the LSU faithful to enjoy. We’ll know soon enough whether he really is moving on up.
