Former LSU receiver Brandon LaFell is set to join the Cincinnati Bengals after reaching a contract agreement with the team on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
LaFell, 29, spent the last two seasons with the New England Patriots, but was released by the team in early March after a season plagued by foot injuries and drops. He previously spent the first four seasons of his career with the Carolina Panthers after he was selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
The Bengals are looking to restock their wide receiver corps after losing both Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu in free agency to the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons, respectively. Former UGA receiver A.J. Green led the team in 2015 with 86 receptions for 1,297 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning a fifth trip to the Pro Bowl in as many years.
LaFell began the 2015 season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to a foot injury and finished the season with 37 receptions for 515 yards in 11 games. It marked the first season of his NFL career that ended without a touchdown reception.
