Alabama’s win over Florida in the SEC Championship game helped clarify LSU’s bowl options Saturday night. It looks like the Tigers could be heading to Houston for their bowl game.
The Tigers are expected to receive an invitation to the Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston, according to a report from The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger, although the TaxSlayer Bowl is also an option. Alabama should earn a spot in the College Football Playoff, which means Ole Miss seems ticketed for a Sugar Bowl bid. Florida is expected to receive an invite to the Citrus Bowl, according to Dellenger. UGA looks like the favorite to land in the TaxSlayer Bowl.
The Texas Bowl would likely draw a better contingent of Tigers fans than the TaxSlayer Bowl. Baton Rouge, La., is a short flight or a manageable four-hour drive to Houston. Jacksonville, Fla., the site of the TaxSlayer Bowl, is more than double the travel distance.
The Tigers would face a Big 12 opponent in Houston, possibly Texas Tech or West Virginia, although that remains up in the air at this point.
