LSU’s star freshman, Ben Simmons, was not listed in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against Tennessee.
According to a report, Simmons was benched for the beginning of the game due to academic reasons.
“It is an academic matter,” coach Johnny Jones told ESPNU’s broadcast. “There is some academic things that he needs to take care of… and this is how we’re dealing with it.”
TV broadcast asked LSU's coach why didn't Ben Simmons start? Johnny Jones: "It is an internal matter and we will address it after the game."

Simmons sat out the first few minutes of the contest and didn’t register his first basket until the 9:47 mark in the first half. The freshman’s academic mishap comes at a bad time as LSU is trying to fend off the fledgling Volunteers, and preserve its hopes for an NCAA Tournament bid.
The Tigers currently trail the Volunteers by double digits early in the second half.
