In order to be at full strength in the fall, LSU will be a bit shorthanded in the spring.
Center Ethan Pocic and safety John Battle underwent surgery, and both are expected to sit out this spring, a source told NOLA.com’s James Smith.
Pocic, who recently announced he would return to LSU for his senior season, suffered a hip injury that required surgery. Rehabilitation is expected to go on for upwards of six months, per Smith.
Battle tore a labrum in his hip, and the rehabilitation process — like Pocic’s — is expected to last up to six months.
Smith’s source suggested both Pocic and Battle could be back in four months, which would put them back around May. However, their return for the spring is considered highly unlikely.
Without Pocic, sophomore Andy Dodd would be next for LSU. Pocic, the lone senior returning along LSU’s offensive line, should regain his starting spot when healthy.
Battle is currently listed behind sophomore Jamal Adams at strong safety. With fellow defensive back Corey Thompson expected to see time at linebacker in 2016, junior Rickey Jefferson is the next man on the depth chart at free safety.
