The contract details of LSU’s new defensive coordinator have been revealed.
Dave Aranda signed a 3-year deal that starts at $1.3 million in annual pay and increases from there, according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. Perhaps most importantly, Aranda’s contract would not be affected if coach Les Miles is eventually fired.
Aranda appears to be worth the money. His Wisconsin defense finished 2015 ranked second in scoring defense (13.7 points allowed per game) and third in total defense (268.5 yards allowed per game). He will replace Kevin Steele, who left for the same role at Auburn after serving as LSU’s defensive coordinator last season.
The Tigers finished 2015 ranked 42nd in scoring defense (24.3 points allowed per game) and 25th in total defense (347.2 yards allowed per game).
