Southern Miss may be without a key component when it travels to Tiger Stadium this weekend.
Senior quarterback Nick Mullens is questionable for Saturday’s game against LSU after suffering an injury against Texas San Antonio last weekend, according to GulfLive.com’s Curtis Rockwell.
Mullens, who was the 2015 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, has thrown for 1,874 yards, 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions in six games this season.
LSU will be his second SEC opponent of the season, as he tossed for 258 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions against Kentucky in Week 1.
While the Wildcats rank as the SEC’s No. 12 pass defense, the Tigers enter this weekend as the conference’s 6th-best passing defense while allowing an average of 217.8 yards per game through the air.
LSU should also be well rested after missing out on its Florida contest this past weekend because of Hurricane Matthew.
That’s a dangerous combination for any team, but especially a Golden Eagles squad with a banged up quarterback.
