Former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger was released by the San Diego Chargers on Tuesday.
The former sixth-round selection of the Tennessee Titans in the 2014 NFL Draft was acquired by the Chargers in the off-season via a waiver claim, but failed to impress behind starter Philip Rivers during preseason camp. Mettenberger was working with the advantage of having former Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who was in charge of the team when he was drafted, serving as San Diego’s offensive coordinator.
Mettenberger has 2,347 passing yards through two NFL seasons. He played at LSU from 2011-13 after transferring from Georgia, and was the Tigers’ starting quarterback in 2012 and 2013.
