The expectations for the 2016 LSU football team are sky high. With so much talent and experience returning on each side of the ball, fans and media types alike are expecting the Tigers to challenge for the SEC title and perhaps a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Can the Tigers deliver under pressure? That’s what the SEC Network set out to determine in the latest installment of its preseason prediction series on Thursday evening.
The SEC Network called on former LSU defensive linemen Marcus Spears and Booger McFarland, who work for the network as studio analysts, to make the game-by-game predictions for their alma mater.
Predictably, they were pretty bullish on the Tigers. McFarland and Spears predicted that the Tigers would finally break a painful five-game losing streak to the Crimson Tide in a Nov. 5 meeting at Tiger Stadium, but countered with predicting another loss to Arkansas in a trip to Fayetteville the following week.
At their predicted record of 11-1, the Tigers would be in position to contend both for a trip to the conference championship game and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Here’s a look at the game-by-game breakdown from McFarland and Spears:
Overall Record: 11-1 (7-1, SEC)
Sept. 3 vs. Wisconsin (Lambeau Field)– Win
Sept. 10 vs. Jacksonville State– Win
Sept. 17 vs. Mississippi State– Win
